Project Hunter: Week 7

Into week seven of Project Hunter. I didn't think it would take this long when I set out! I've visited eighteen food stalls so far. There are still a couple of weeks of places left to visit before I finish the challenge.

Those of you that read last weeks installment, might remember that it was a bit of a sandwich fest. Hong Hai Vietnamese does it's biggest trade in Vietnamese Rolls, however, I couldn't face another sandwich so opted for the hot counter instead. I had the pork chop, fried fish, pork balls, steamed veggies and 'chicken sauce' ($6.50). The two standouts for me were the poached pork balls. They were incredibly soft and moist, Mmmmmm. The mysterious 'chicken sauce' poured over the rice was also really good. It reminded me of the sauce served with the crispy pork rice at my favourite street stall in Bangkok.

Friday saw me pay a visit to Mam's Taste Japanese take-away. I went for the teriyaki beef, calamari and steamed vegetables ($7). The dish felt healthy and noticeably less oily than a lot of the lunches I've had so far. The teriyaki beef was a little sweet for me. The calamari was nicely cooked, but the batter could have done with a bit more zing. Perhaps a bit of chilli?

  1. I ate at Mam's Taste the other day. had a very late lunch at about 3pm and grabbed one of the $3.50 lunch boxes of fried chicken, teriyaki & rice. Was ok but would have been better if it hadn't sat there going soggy
