The Big Pineapple

Australia's Big Things started with the building of the Big Banana in 1964 at the mighty Coff's Harbour (home of Shakespearemate). Usually built as a tourist attraction and representative of the areas best feature, I think it is fair to say that most Big Things are past their prime; but have developed a cult status.

I visited the Big Pineapple at Woombye while on holiday at Sunshine Beach. Being built in the 1960/70's I thought Big Things would be made of concrete and was surprised to find the Big Pineapple was actually made of fibre glass. You can climb to the top (if you squint you'll see me waving) and there are is an exhibition of the pineapple farming and canning process on the inside.

Faded glory and very cheesy, but a bit of fun nonetheless.
