Gleeming White Teeth and Medical Tourism

I went to the dentist today. It is the first time I've been in 18months so I was a bit aprehensive about the bad news that might be in store for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised to be told that my teeth were in tip-top condition and not even showing the early signs of decay.

What did come as a shock was the bill. £107 for check up and clean that only took 25mins.

Last time I visited the dentist was when I was in Bangkok Thailand. At the end of the Soi where my friend lives is a Bupa clinic that opperates to full Western standards. The same treatment there only cost £12.

I have always been pretty sceptical about medical tourism, despite all the negative press I would still trust the NHS over anywhere else. But such big savings do make you think..........

  2. About 35,000 people from the UK and Ireland get Dental Treatment overseas each year. However this is normally for work that would never be covered by the NHS. The average 'Dental Tourist' spends £2,500 and saves between 50 and 70% off the cost of treatment. The most popular treatment are: implants, veneers, crowns and bridges.

35,000 may seem like a large number however it is pretty small compared to the UK's 'dentist going' population and other European countries. According to the BBC more than one million Austrian travel to Hungary each year for Dental Treatment.

There are some interesting Dental Tourism statistics for the UK on our site here http://www.revahealth.com/dentistry/statistics/dental-tourism/uk-ireland/index.html. If you can't be bothered cutting and pasting the link it shows that Hunagary and Poland are the top Dental Destinations for UK Dental Tourist with an amazing 10% going as far afield as Thailand (seasonal I suspect)

  3. I may seem to be a bit biased, but if you think about what I'm going to say a little bit, it should make a lot of sense, and it will save a lot of money too. I'm one of three principals of America's Medical Solutions (www.americasmedicalsolutions.com). We are Americans living full time in India. After a number of years (over twenty collective years), we were stunned by the advantages the medical tourist was able to take advantage of. The cutting edge of technology is here. The world's finest doctors are here and the prices are fantastic.

Anyone visiting India should get here just a day earlier for a range of tests with the world's latest technological marvels for just 1,000 usd or 511 GBP against 15,000 USD or 767 GBP!

Dental work too boasts state of the art equipment and minions of practicioners who really know their stuff. I have wondered why someone didn't put together a charter flight for a real tour of India and take advantage of these two points alone.

Beyond these two items, the heart, cancer, orthopaedic, IVF, organ transplants, etc., and every other medical line there is can be matched in western countries for medicine, but not for care or price. India far outshines them all.

We know patients who say they would crawl back to India for whatever future medical problem they had.
