On the Saturday night of my recent visit to Melbourne to watch the Grand Prix I took part in the Lidster ritual of visiting the Fitzroy pub Labour in Vain for a drink.
Fitzroy is an interesting area. Crowded, edgy and full of attractive people out on a Saturday night. I couldn't quite decide if it is effortless shabby-chic or a manufactured look. I have a feeling that the laid back vibe is disappearing with every trendy new bar that opens.
Clint and I both agreed that we've never had a good meal in Fitzroy. After a couple of drinks we were wondering up and down Brunswick St looking for something to eat. We felt very uninspired until we saw the functionally named Lamb on Brunswick spit roasting lamb over charcoal. It looked so good that we couldn't resist. Smokey and tender lamb, with salad and garlic sauce. It was possibly the cheapest and best thing we ate all weekend.
looks like a kebab on it's side but better because it's using coals for cooking. i'll have to keep an eye out for this one when i'm in melbourne :-)

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't five pints and a kebab. However, after a long day in the sun the beer did have quite an effect!
